Confirmed dates from the sanctuary calendar

The Santuário de Fátima lists the Peregrinação Aniversária on 12 October 2026 and the Dedication of the Basilica on 13 October 2026, the anniversary of the last apparition of 1917. The candlelight procession on the evening of the 12th and the morning celebrations on the 13th draw pilgrims from across the country and abroad. The detailed liturgical programme and any changes are published by the sanctuary closer to the date; this page does not restate times.

On the Central Way: pass through or stop

The Central Way from Lisbon runs through Santarém and Tomar, and the Fátima variant leaves it to reach the sanctuary. Walkers arriving around 12 October will find pilgrim accommodation and hostels full for days either side, and roads into Cova da Iria congested with coaches. Either plan a stage that sleeps well away from Fátima on those nights, or make the pilgrimage itself the objective and book the sanctuary area months ahead.

Travelling to Fátima for the dates

Fátima has no railway station; the nearest CP stations are on the Northern Line and the final leg is by bus or car. Long-distance coaches from Lisbon and Porto add departures for the anniversary but sell out; book them as early as the room. Expect road controls and parking far from the sanctuary on the 12th and 13th, and keep 11 and 14 October as travel days.

Does the Fátima pilgrimage count towards the Compostela?

No. The Compostela is issued in Santiago de Compostela for the last 100 continuous kilometres on foot into that city. Fátima is a separate pilgrimage with its own sanctuary; walking the Central Way past it adds distance to a Lisbon start but the certificate depends only on the Galician finish.

Should I avoid Fátima on 12–13 October if I am walking the Central Way?

Avoid needing a bed there. If the pilgrimage is not your objective, plan stages that sleep in Santarém, Tomar or another town on those nights and pass Fátima on a different day. If it is your objective, book the sanctuary area months ahead and accept that the stage before and after will be slow and crowded.

How do I get to Fátima without a car?

By long-distance coach from Lisbon or Porto; Fátima has no railway station, and CP's Northern Line stations still need a final bus or taxi leg. Coaches add departures for the anniversary but fill early. Book the seat with the room and check the operator's dated timetable rather than assuming a daily pattern.
