A fixed date, a programme published in spring

Lisbon's patron saint is celebrated on 13 June, the municipal holiday, and the city's biggest night is the eve, 12 June, when the Marchas Populares descend Avenida da Liberdade and the neighbourhood arraiais fill Alfama, Graça, Mouraria and Bica. EGEAC, the municipal cultural company, presents the Festas de Lisboa through June and publishes the dated programme in spring; the Grande Marcha is a joint initiative of the Câmara Municipal de Lisboa and EGEAC. Inside the party or beside it

A room in Alfama or Graça puts you inside the arraiais with grilled sardines under the window until late; that is the point for some travellers and a sleepless night for others. Baixa, Chiado and Avenida da Liberdade keep the Marchas and the old quarters within walking distance with a quieter return. Confirm the exact entrance and the stairs; luggage through a crowded Alfama on 12 June is slow.

Plan the days around the night

Arrive by 11 June, keep 13 June for the holiday rhythm and the procession, and start any Ericeira or Camino leg on 14 June at the earliest. Metro runs to a holiday pattern on 13 June and the Carris Metropolitana timetable to Ericeira must be read for that date rather than assumed.

Is Santo António 2027 confirmed?

The date is fixed: 13 June is Lisbon's municipal holiday and the eve, 12 June, has carried the Marchas Populares and the arraiais every year under EGEAC's Festas de Lisboa. What is not yet published is the 2027 programme, which arrives in spring with the exact times and venues. Book on the date and keep the detail flexible.

Where should I stay for the Marchas Populares?

The parade descends Avenida da Liberdade, so a base on or near the avenue, in Baixa or Chiado puts it on foot and leaves a quieter route home. Alfama and Graça are the heart of the arraiais and the last to quieten. Decide by how late you want to sleep, then confirm the property's stairs and entrance.

Can I combine Santo António with Ericeira or the Camino?

Yes, from 14 June. The holiday on 13 June changes transport patterns and the old quarters recover slowly.
